Your Medicare Coverage Isn't "Set It and Forget It"

Why an annual review matters more than you might think.

Life changes. Health changes. And the plans available to you can change from year to year, too. That's why Medicare builds in a structured window each fall to review and adjust your coverage.

It's called the Annual Election Period (AEP), and it runs October 15 through December 7.

What You Can Do During AEP

During this window, you can:

  • Switch Medicare Advantage plans

  • Change your Part D (prescription drug) coverage

  • Move between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage

Any changes you make take effect January 1 of the following year.

Why Review Even If Nothing Seems to Have Changed?

Plans can shift without much fanfare. From one year to the next:

  • Premiums may increase

  • Drug formularies (the list of covered medications) may change

  • Your providers may leave a plan's network

  • Your own health needs or travel patterns may have shifted

A plan that fit well last year may not be the best fit this year.

What to Look at During a Review

Think of it as an annual check-up for your coverage. A TruLync advisor will go through:

  • Total cost: premiums, deductibles, copays

  • Prescriptions: Are your medications still covered at the same tier?

  • Doctors: Are your providers still in-network?

  • Extra benefits: Dental, vision, wellness programs — do they still apply to you?

A Small Step With a Real Payoff

A 20-minute review can catch a premium increase you didn't expect, a medication that's no longer covered, or a better-fitting plan you didn't know existed. AEP is your annual opportunity to make sure your coverage is still working for you.
